The last few years, I have been particularly driven by the ongoing global water crisis. Water is how most people will be (or already are) impacted by climate change, yet water is still treated as an infinite resource. As part of my practice, I have researched how industry has negatively impacted sensitive, established ecosystems due to dredging, pollution, runoff, and resultant algal blooms, threatening biodiversity of the world’s bodies of water.
At past residencies, I developed “The River Reverb Series” (RRS), a collaborative set of site-informed dance films that translate incessant exploitation of water and women through an interpersonal lens. The conceptual framework and movement vocabulary of each piece has been centered on man-made destructive practices. As a resident with Cork Printmakers, I aim to build on this foundation by exploring how and where printmaking and filmmaking converge.
Utilizing investigation of ways various qualities of water texturize surface, shape earth, and diffuse sound, documentation of performance, and direct connection with the Lee River that flows outside of the print shop, I will develop a series of prints that integrate scientific research and artistic representation. My goal while working with Cork Printmakers is to rediscover an appreciation for our natural connection and sacred commonality with water.
