It takes two to speak the truth is a two person exhibition that brings together works in print and ceramics by Emma O’Hara & Evelyn Goold at Cork Printmakers Studio Gallery.

The exhibition is a celebration of expressive mark making, colour and abstraction. The artist’s respond to the processes of printmaking in an instinctive way, pushing the boundaries, rules and scale of the medium incorporating monotypes, collagraphy and linocut.

The exhibition title, taken from an artwork of the same name by Goold, is based on the quote “It takes two to speak the truth – one to speak and another to hear” by American naturalist Henry David Thoreau. These words link the artists in their ambition to present artworks that speak to their mutual experiences, creative collaboration and friendship despite their 50 year age gap.

Both artists are concerned with their experiences and positions within the world that surrounds them. O’Hara’s monotypes delve into quiet frustrations of adulthood. Goold’s work is deeply connected to family and her home in rural Ireland. Many of the artworks incorporate a blurred representation of nature and dwellings or memories of distant landscapes.

This exhibition is presented as part of a series of exhibitions taking place in 2025. Future exhibitions in the series: Jo Kelley (May – July 2025), Peter Nash (Sept – Nov 2025).
